Commentary on Miers' withdrawal. Snarky but accurate. Best line? "The main rationale for her decision is that, well, Congress is mean."
Well, Miers is out of the running. She just wasn't enough of a zombie for the Right. (And the Left didn't really know what to make of her.)
And she has a crush on Dubya. Maybe Dubya was just hoping for his own Monica?
Is the White House thinking of pulling out on the Miers nomination?
Maybe. Maybe not.
Two for one with this article. First a fun except from a George Will article. Then some great additional commentary on Miers' credentials. The kicker:
"Even Clarence Thomas is a Yale Law grad and former judge."
Ouch!
Apparently Miers was the conduit through which everything bound for Dubya had to pass. Amazingly, when it came time for the White House to send out its yearly xmas card, Miers dubbed the first drafts to be too Christian, and repeatedly sent them back for re-writes.
She's not making it easy to pin her down, is she?
Why should Miers be confirmed, in the absense of any real information on her ability to perform as a judge? Because she's a good christian, that's why.
Is nominee Miers a good judge of character and ability?
"Dear Governor GWB,
You're the best governor ever -- deserving of great respect!"
(from page 9)
Evidently not.
It's worth reading through them. She obviously has a schoolgirl crush on Dubya.
More bad poll numbers for Dubya. Only 28% believe the country is heading in the correct direction. His approval rating is at 39%. And only 29% think Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers is qualified.
Maybe Supreme Court nominee Harriet E. Miers isn't all bad. She helped create an endowed lecture series in women's studies at Southern Methodist University's law school. She even helped fund it.
And who gave the first lecture? Gloria Steinem, that's who.
