Here's the deal. An 18-year-old guy was found guilty in 2000 of performing a sex act on a 14-year-old boy. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison.
Had either one of them been a girl, the sentence would have maxed out 15 months. That's months, not years.
The Kansas Supreme Court held that you can't discriminate like that. Good for Kansas.
Of course, the guy had already served 5 years, nearly 4 more than a straight person would have served.
(There's no word on what the penalty is if you're a priest. Maybe a promotion?)
