Bush Warned of Flooding From Katrina
(via www.dailykos.com)

A common mantra of the Dubya administration regarding Katrina and the devastation of New Orleans is that no one anticipated the flooding and they didn't get good enough information on the severity to allow them to act.

Well, they did. Before Katrina made landfall. It's on video.

Mayor: New Orleans Will Seek Aid From Other Nations

New Orleans is so strapped for resources that they're seeking aid from other countries.

That sort of officially makes the US a 3rd world country.

The National Guard - At Home or Abroad
(via americaabroad.tpmcafe.com)

Dubya and others have gone on about how the concentration of National Guard troops in Iraq has nothing to do with the slow response to the devestation in the wake of Katrina, claiming that there are plenty of troops available to handle both.

Apparently, the troops aren't the problem. The lack of equipment is, with state-side National Guard troops having only 34 percent of their essential equipment.

Who says so? The GAO, that's who.

Hurricanes Rain on Bush's Tax Cut Parade
(via www.inthesetimes.com)

Detailed account of how the Bush administration moved needed funds away from projects like shoring up New Orleans' levee system and towards the rich and misguided wars.

While things like the levees are always underfunded, regardless of who occupies the White House, Dubya takes underfunding to a whole new low.

Republicans are using relief measures for the hurricane-ravaged Gulf coast to achieve a broad range of conservative economic and social policies, including suspending labor friendly rules and waiving some affirmative-action rules.

Majority Disapprove of the Handling of Katrina, Iraq
(via www.cnn.com)

Mid-September poll numbers for Dubya:

57% disapprove of Dubya's handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
67% disapprove of his handling of the War on Iraq.
59% considered the invasion of Iraq a mistake.
63% want to see U.S. troops withdrawn from Iraq, either partially or wholly.
63% disapprove of Dubya's handling of the economy.
Finally, 58% disapprove of his overall performance in office.

In addition to realizing what a pitiful failure he his, more and more folks are realizing he's also a jerk:

51% did not consider him strong and decisive.
50% would not call him honest.
56% percent said he didn't care about people like them. (The number is probably much higher for black folks.)

(via www.chicagotribune.com)

More stories about the incompetence of the Bush administration in preparing for and dealing with the devestation in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Buses were available, but the Bushies had, of course, contracted it out to other imcompentents. They, in turn, contracted out. And they contracted it out. And nothing actually worked.

How clueless can Republicans be? DeLay ask evacuated kids whether it was like being at camp. "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"

No! It's no damn fun at all! (Unless you went to a camp where corpses floated by in the streets.)

Hurricane Katrina - Our Experiences

First-hand description of life in New Orleans in the wake of Katrina. Particularly harrowing is the description of the actions of the Gretna sheriffs, threatening to shoot folks attempting to flee New Orleans on foot.

Execution would not be an unjust penalty for those sherriffs.
